And also by contributing to the sustainability of our planet and the communities in which we live and work. Since the establishment of Coca-Cola İçecek, our management and Board have been committed to helping improve the quality of life in the communities we serve. As per Articles of Association, we donate 3 % of our pre-tax profit to foundations.
The Life Plus Youth Program and Coca-Cola Life Plus Foundation
Coca-Cola Turkey provided $2 million towards 46 projects in 33 provinces, designed and implemented by young people since 2005 within the “Life Plus” Youth Program, organized jointly with the United Nations Development Program. “Life Plus,” the first, only and longest running program in Turkey providing support for environmental projects organized by young people, acts as a partner for young people wishing to solve local environmental issues. Over a period of two years, “Life Plus” Youth Program projects have conveyed messages on Turkey’s water resources, renewable energy resources and waste management to more than 100,000 people.
Coca-Cola founded the Coca-Cola Life Plus Foundation in its 45th year in Turkey in order to develop sustainable environmental and social projects in collaboration with non-governmental organizations, universities and public bodies. Coca-Cola set forth on this path with a long-term perspective and the aim of expanding and developing existing social investments within the framework of the Foundation. The “Life Plus” Youth Program now pursues its activities under the roof of the Coca-Cola Life Plus Foundation. Approximately TL 5 million (app. $3,26 million) will be spent on environmental and social projects pioneered by the Foundation in the period 2009-2010.
Employee Contributions
The Employee Donations Contribution Program Fund was initiated in 2008 to encourage social responsibility awareness, giving our employees the opportunity to contribute to various charitable institutions. CCI encourages donations by making a yearly contribution equaling the total donations of all employees. CCI has allocated an annual amount of $100,000 to be used in the Employee Donations Contribution Program Fund.
The Anadolu Foundation
We have great pride in our contributions to the Anadolu Foundation which was established 25 years ago with the goal of making a difference in people's lives through investing in health and education; having completed over 40 projects such as hospitals, schools, dormitories and sports complexes. The objective of the Anadolu Foundation is to provide state of the art health care to the communities it serves. Today, the foundation owns and operates the non-profit Anadolu Medical Center, affiliated with Johns Hopkins Medicine. The hospital provides free-of-charge service to at least 10% of its patients. Anadolu Medical Center also gives seminars and organizes special programs to make people aware of free check-ups, patient education programs, First Aid courses and preventive medicine.
Coca-Cola İçecek is the Most Transparent Company
Coca-Cola İçecek was deemed worthy of first prize at the “AccountAbility Ethical Accountability 2008 Turkey Rating” organized in cooperation with world-wide known independent corporate social responsibility and accountability organization AccountAbility and Kurumsal Sosyal Sorumluluk Enstitüsü (Institute of Corporate Social Responsibility). Coca-Cola won this prize thanks to its innovative applications in order to reduce its environmental impacts and its commitment concerning water management.
